Por generaciones, el Parque Martín Rosado Seguí ha sido parte de Isabela: primero, como escuela y luego, como parque. Pero el tiempo, los huracanes y la falta de recursos han dejado su marca.
Mi Patria PR cree que este terreno puede ser mucho más de lo que es hoy. Con un contrato colaborativo de 5 años propuesto ante el Municipio de Isabela, la organización busca transformar el parque en un centro comunitario de resiliencia: canchas de pickleball, uno de los deportes de más rápido crecimiento; espacios para el arte, la cultura y el bienestar mental; y la infraestructura esencial para que el parque sirva como refugio de emergencia cuando la isla más lo necesite, y como lugar de encuentro cuando no. El parque está llamado a servir a esta comunidad tanto en los buenos tiempos como en los difíciles: como centro de ayuda de emergencia cuando llega el desastre, y como verdadero espacio comunitario, día a día, mientras tanto.
La transformación ya comenzó. Este agosto, Mi Patria PR se une a VIPR, una organización comunitaria, para la primera fase del proyecto: pintar el edificio por dentro y por fuera, completar dos murales comunitarios, sembrar un jardín de flores y reunir a voluntarios de la diáspora y de Isabela codo a codo. Uno de esos murales lo resume todo: "La sangre de nuestros ancestros corre por esta tierra." Este parque no es solo cemento y pintura: es linaje, memoria y futuro.
El impulso no se detiene ahí. El 12 de septiembre, el parque será sede de nuestro primer gran evento comunitario y anuncio público, Una Noche en el Parque, marcando en voz alta el próximo capítulo.
Lo que comienza como un fin de semana de pintura es, en realidad, el primer paso hacia años de transformación: un parque que no solo recibe a la comunidad, sino que la cuida. Únete a la misión.
For generations, Parque Martín Rosado Seguí has been part of Isabela: first as a school and then as a park. But time, hurricanes, and a lack of resources have left their mark.
Mi Patria PR believes this ground can be so much more than it is today. Through a proposed 5-year collaborative lease with the Municipio de Isabela, the organization is working to transform the park into a community resilience hub: pickleball courts, one of the fastest-growing sports around; spaces for art, culture, and mental wellness; and the essential infrastructure for the park to serve as an emergency shelter when the island needs it most, and a gathering place when it doesn't. The park is meant to serve this community in good times and in hard ones alike: an emergency relief center when disaster strikes, and a true community space, day to day, in between.
That transformation has already begun. This August, Mi Patria PR is joining forces with VIPR, a community organization, for the project's first phase: painting the building inside and out, finishing two community murals, planting a flower garden, and bringing volunteers from the diaspora and from Isabela together, side by side. One of those murals says it best: “The blood of our ancestors runs through this land.” This park isn't just concrete and paint. It's lineage, memory, and future.
The momentum doesn't stop there. On September 12, the park will host its first major community event and public announcement, Una Noche en el Parque, marking the next chapter out loud.
What starts as a weekend of painting is, in truth, the first step toward years of transformation: a park that doesn't just welcome the community, but takes care of it. Come join the mission.
