Here are some of the projects we are currently working on in Puerto rico.

home stability program

Mission Accomplished: Mercado Family

Mr. Guillermo Mercado Rodriguez is a Korean War Veteran from Isabela, PR. He is 91 years old and served as a United States Army Transportation Specialist from 1951-1954. He currently lives in a wooden home with a zinc roof. He resides with his wife who is hearing and speech impaired wife, daughter and three granddaughters. His daughter Jennifer, who lives with them, has two daughters with special needs. Mr. Mercado is disabled and helps provide for his family with a small VA Compensation, but it is not enough and their home is not safe. Hurricane season has already begun. Termites are slowly consuming their small wooden home. They have no walls to separate the rooms, there are large fractures in the bathroom cement wall, there are exposed electrical wires, the wooden floor is supported by cinder blocks and is unleveled. Both Mr. Mercado and his wife have fallen and been injured due to the damaged wooden floors.

Rebuild has been completed and the Mercado Family is back in their new home. Thank you for all the support and those who helped us complete this mission.

Doña Elidia is a 92 year old woman, who lives alone in Isabela, PR. She is widowed and has no children to help care for her. She is living in subhuman conditions and is overwhelmed with pets. Her home is also in need of some repair including windo, doors and some structural issues.

School Rehabilitation Program

Mission: Rebuilding Borikén

Escuela Luis Munoz Rivera is an abandoned school under the care of the Municipality of Isabela that has been identified as a disaster relief center.  Mi Patria will assist the municipality in cleaning, rebuilding and renovating the school with the intention of turning it into a center prepared for disaster and emergency relief that will serve the community.

The facilities will also host Mi Patria’s first base of operations allowing for a sustainability focus on the center with the addition of solar energy and water catchment/ filtration systems. The center will also be prepared for use as a refuge in times of emergency with off-grid power and water resources, functioning kitchen, bathrooms and showers. Mi Patria will also collaborate with other organizations within the center in assisting and empowering our community.

Disaster Relief & Preparedness

Mission: Alivio Pa’ La Patria

On September 18, 2022 Hurricane Fiona made landfall in Puerto Rico. Since then the archipelago has received an immense amount of rain and winds causing landslides, flooding and leading to catastrophic damages in our roads and bridges. Our team has been on the ground and working with the municipalities and community leaders to serve the areas in most need with road clearing, wellness checks, roof tarping, inverter donations and the delivery of water, food, solar lights and hygiene products.

Mi Patria continues to help with recovery efforts and preparing for any future emergencies ensuring community members are prepared for hurricane season.

Living Bold & Fearlessly
